This is the "indie rock" song on the album.
It was born out of one of my favorite Patti Smith lyrics "can't you give me nothing but surrender?". Which is why I'm sharing writing credit with her. She doesn't know it. If she does, I'm doing this so I don't get sued.
I don't really know what the song is about. It was just a bunch of left-over phrases from other songs I was writing at the time, and I think it works. If you have any idea of what it could mean, let me know and you win...something. I don't know I just I don
lyrics
Boy, I'm getting tired of your accessibility
It's getting to me, it's getting to me
Grabbing everything you can regardless of what you see
It's getting to me, it's getting to me
Throwing stones into the ocean
Life during wartime is in motion
Can't you give me nothing but surrender?
Can't you give me nothing but surrender?
Boy, I'm missing all the times you talked about your fears
Open up to me, open up to me
It's not like I've been deaf and dumb for 3 long years
Open up to me, open up to me
Throwing stones into the ocean
All of the plans are put in motion
Can't you give me nothing but attention?
Can't you give me nothing but attention?
Six ships sank thanks to pettiness and ignorance
You don't wanna turn the lighthouse on
You just wanna dance
You just wanna bounce around
You just wanna paint the town red
Like you did last night
I'm done with putting up a fight
Throwing stones into the ocean
We used to be poetry in motion
Can't you give me nothing but a sign, babe?
Can't you give me nothing but a sign, babe

Phil makes sometimes quiet, sometimes ear shattering, always pretty and dense records and this one is no different. As big as all outdoors and as small as a small wooden shack, as to be expected. al Riggs
Dance to this all night and then the morning and then the afternoon until your legs turn to noodles or the landlord starts a-knocking on your floor/their ceiling with a broom. Whichever happens first. al Riggs
Landlady live is a force of nature, on record they are just as gorgeous and anxious as they are in the Flesh World. More Nervous Energy for those who like tremendous drumming and proper earworms. al Riggs
The wonderfully understated folk songs on the new EP from Emma Geiger recall the best of The Softies and early Mary Lou Lord. Bandcamp New & Notable May 9, 2022
